Organising Photos
It is likely that you will have photos from many people, and in formats including hard copy prints, soft copy digital files on phones, computers and social media.
APPOINT AN EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
The first thing you should do is appoint someone to be in charge of this. This can be you or any member of your family that is good with technology, but also good with people. This person will be your editor-in-chief, master of photos or gatekeeper. They will work with all the key members of the family to make decisions on things like which photos to include or exclude, etc. It is not easy, but someone has to make these calls as there is only so much time.
KEY DECISIONS
Some of the key decisions that will need to be made might include:
- Favourite photo for the front
- Same favourite photo for the TV screen?
- Back photo(s)
- Special words/poems/songs/recipes/etc
- Song choices
- Which photos for the photo tribute?
- Chronological or Random order?
LABEL YOUR PHOTOS
- Please ensure photos are labelled if they are to go somewhere specific.
- For hard copy prints, use post-it notes (or write lightly on the back with pen/pencil);
- For digital photos, give the files appropriate filenames;
e. Front cover of a booklet, give it a name like “Booklet Front” - If a photo needs to be cropped down, give it a name with instructions like “Booklet Collage 1 – crop to man in blue shirt”
- If you want your slideshow in a specific order, give photos sequential names like “Slideshow-01.jpg”, “Slideshow-02.jpg”, etc.
PRINTED PHOTOS (Hard copy)
- We can scan printed photos (up to A3 size);
- If you plan to scan these yourself, aim for a minimum of 300dpi resolution; 600dpi is even better.
- Don’t crop the photos, we can do this if required.
DIGITAL PHOTOS (Soft copy)
- All file formats from all makes of cameras and smartphones accepted;
- For booklets and other print media, do not resize or crop the photos (we can do this if required);
- Try and keep the quality and size of the photos as high as possible.
